Grades 1 - 4 (CP/commercially pure titanium) are slightly softer so are best for making earring hooks and other shapes. All are suitable for initial and healed piercings. It is important to remember that the main difference between these grades of titanium is mostly in the manufacturing. Titanium is suitable for both initial and healed body piercings. There are no other materials added and there is no plating or painting. The colour produced depends on the thickness of the oxide layer. Anodising creates a thin oxide layer which is just as biocompatible as polished titanium. Titanium can be anodised to create a range of colours. Allergic reactions to titanium are extremely rare even in people sensitive to other metals. Titanium is an excellent choice for anyone with sensitive skin, especially for those allergic to nickel, silver or gold. Titanium is strong, lightweight and highly biocompatible (non-toxic and not rejected by the body). Medical plastic is made from a hardened version of the material used in surgical sutures. 95% of our customers are able to wear our jewellery, but we cannot guarantee that no one will react to an item of jewellery as it is possible to be allergic to anything. The word hypoallergenic means: unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. If you have any issues with these metals, medical plastic or bioplast jewellery are a great option or while your new piercings settles down. They are not open-fit thin tube or RIC receiver thin tube replacements.Stainless Steel, Titanium and Niobium are some of the safest metals you can wear. *Note: These earhooks are adult size for traditional BTE's only, as shown in the picture. If we cannot provide the hook you require, we will let you know. Also, a few models have earhooks which can only be manufacturer replaced: the Widex -19 body style (SD-19, IN-19, BV-19), GN Resound Canta models with metal earhook, and Siemens Triano S. Some hearing instruments have a "push-on" type, snap-in type, or pin that secures the Elbow so take caution when removing your old Elbow. Take care to line it up straight before putting it on, and do not overtighten! If you notice your new hook is not threaded, that's because the threads will be created once you screw or twist it back on your hearing aid. Most Elbows simply unscrew off the end of a hearing aid, and your new hook will simply twist back on. Perspiration and body oils are the cause for breakdown of the plastics in Elbows. With normal wearing, an Elbow usually will wear out well before the hearing aid does, necessitating replacement. Most elbows can be changed quite easily at home. If we require more information, we will contact you. If you do not know the model, then please provide the brand & serial number (but knowing the model is more helpful information for us). You can type this information into the blank titled "Which model hearing aid do you have?" in the ordering section to your right. If ordering an elbow, it is required that you specify the BRAND and MODEL hearing aid you have. Elbows have a flanged tip that grabs hold of the tubing and keeps it securely in place on the Elbow.ĭifferent models of hearing aids utilize different types of elbows. Elbows are the curved "earhook" that attaches to the top of your hearing instrument and curves over the top a person's ear the tubing that extends to the custom earmold or stock ear piece is then slipped onto the end of the elbow. Elbows are a part for Behind-The-Ear (BTE) type of aids only*.
